New Documentary on Urban Nutrition to Premiere in Newark
Film will air June 11 at 6 p.m. at the CityPlex 12 Theater.
Greater Newark Conservancy will premiere a new documentary film titled "Health in the City: A Look at Better Food and Lifestyle Choices" on June 11, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the CityPlex 12 Theater, 360 Springfield Avenue in Newark. Produced with the help of generous grants provided by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey and The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and the support of the Greater Newark community, the documentary takes a look at better urban food and lifestyle choices and is free to interested individuals and groups from the greater Newark area.
“Junk food and fast food seem to be everywhere, particularly in our urban areas,” noted Renee Kee, the Conservancy’s Nutrition Education Program Coordinator, who led the team behind the film’s production. “This easy access to unhealthy food combined with inactive lifestyles contributes significantly to the obesity and preventable disease epidemic in our nation. The Conservancy’s urban farming and community gardening efforts are making fresh and healthy food available in Newark and our education programs are helping raise awareness of better choices when it comes to nutrition and healthier lifestyles.”
“Health in the City” is a powerful documentary film that highlights the possibilities and opportunities related to good nutrition and active living that exist in urban areas,” noted the Conservancy’s Executive Director, Robin Dougherty. “We appreciate the support of our sponsors in helping us bring the film’s message to the community we serve and hope the story of three teenagers profiled in the documentary will provide inspiration regarding what Newark has to offer when it comes to better health and wellness.”
