Retirees who love to travel can do worse than Newark when picking places to spend their golden years, a study says.
NEWARK, NJ — Retirees who love to travel can do worse than Newark when picking places to spend their golden years, a study says.
Personal finance company SmartAsset recently released their 2019 list of “Best Cities for Retirees Who Want to Travel,” ranking Newark 15th out of 54 locations across the U.S.
Miami topped the list, followed by Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, New York City and Orlando.

Researchers based their findings on “travel accessibility” and “financial security for retirees,” including the number of annual flights, median annual housing costs, property crime rate per 100,000 residents and non-housing cost of living. See the full list and the methodology.
“Behind housing costs, travel is often the second-biggest expense for healthy retirees who have a desire to explore,” SmartAsset stated. “With more spare time, retirees are able to take advantage of visiting both domestic and international destinations.”
