Newark Closes Streets After NJ Transit Bus Crash: Broad and Raymond
Motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area at all cost, Newark officials say.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark city officials closed two major roads following a crash between two NJ Transit buses that killed the driver and injured at least 18 around 6 a.m. on Friday, according to reports.
The following streets were closed “as a result of a bus collision at Broad Street and Raymond Boulevard,” Newark officials stated:
- Broad Street Between Central Avenue and Market Street
- Raymond Blvd. Between Halsey and Mulberry streets
“Motorists and pedestrians that utilize these routes should avoid the area at all cost and should consider using alternative routes until streets are reopened,” the Newark Police Department stated in a 9:05 a.m. advisory.

“People who utilize buses that travel along these routes should anticipate a disruption in service until the streets are reopened,” police said. “The estimated time of completion is unknown at this time.”
The accident left victims on the Newark sidewalk and on the street, News4 New York reported. Eyewitnesses said they saw bodies "laying in the street" and one bus may have run a red light, PIX 11 reported.
