Newark Cops: Gun-Toting Man Threatened Restaurant Patrons, Staff

A man walked into Sunshine Halal Restaurant on South Munn Avenue, displayed a gun and threatened the patrons and workers, Newark police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for a gun-toting man who allegedly walked into Sunshine Halal Restaurant, displayed a gun and threatened the patrons and workers on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 8 a.m., when a man walked into Sunshine Halal Restaurant at 5 South Munn Avenue, caused a disturbance and threatened the patrons and workers while displaying a handgun, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The man, who was accompanied by a woman, fled the scene by boarding a bus, authorities said.

Police said the man is 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build, and was wearing a light-brown jacket, black hat and gray snow pants. (See below photo) The suspect is known to frequent the area near the Bradley Court Housing Complex, authorities said.
