Newark Coronavirus Cases Up More Than 7 Percent In 1 Week

NEWARK, NJ — Newark's coronavirus case count continues to rise, according to statistics released Friday.

Essex County released its latest case and death totals on Jan. 15, including data for Newark. The county noted that its daily report may not match state or municipal totals (here's why).

Newark has seen 24,395 cumulative COVID-19 cases, a 7.4 percent increase since last week. There have been 793 deaths linked to the disease in the city, which has 282,011 residents, according to the most recent estimate from the U.S. Census.
