Newark Extends Contract With St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter: Report

St. Hubert's in Madison has been providing animal shelter services for Newark since the city's bitter split with Associated Humane Society.

NEWARK, NJ — St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center will continue to serve as Newark’s temporary animal shelter until October, a report says.

The Newark City Council recently extended an emergency contract with St. Hubert’s to provide shelter and medical care for stray and surrendered animals from Newark. The eight-month, $427,000 deal covers from February to October, NJ.com reported. (Read the full article here)

Newark’s arrangement with the Madison-based St. Hubert’s began last November after a money war erupted between the city and its longtime animal shelter provider, the Associated Humane Society (AHS). Prior to the switch, the AHS was buffeted by a series of grim inspections that revealed troubling conditions at their flagship facility.
