Face Mask Policy Will Remain In This NJ School District

NEWARK, NJ — New Jersey’s face mask mandate for K-12 schools is set to expire in March. But in the Newark Public School District, the local mandate will remain, officials say.

Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed Monday that he will drop New Jersey's school mask mandate, effective March 7. But the state will allow individual districts and day care centers to maintain masking requirements after that date. People who want to voluntarily wear masks can continue to do so. “The wearing of masks is part of the district’s protocols and we are maintaining our protocols,” a Newark school spokesperson told NJ.com.

Those policies currently include requiring students, employees and visitors to wear masks while in buildings or on school grounds.

District administrators said they would notify Newark families about any changes to the masking policy, Chalkbeat reported.
