Newark Firefighters Save 4 From Blaze (2 Humans, 2 Kittens)

Newark firefighters rescued four residents of a Ferry Street home – two humans and two kittens – from a fire in the city's East Ward.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark firefighters rescued four residents of a Ferry Street home – two humans and two kittens – from a fire in the city’s East Ward last weekend.

Saturday’s blaze took place around 4:50 a.m. at a three-story, mixed-use building at 48 Ferry Street, the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.

Firefighters battled flames on the first floor and heavy smoke above while rescuing victims on the 2nd and 3rd floors, authorities said.

No injuries were reported; seven adults were relocated, authorities said.

The fire was considered under control at 5:38 a.m. The cause and origin will be investigated by the Arson Unit, NDPS officials stated.

“I commend members of Engine 5 for rescuing the two trapped victims and members of Engine 14 members for saving the two pets found at the fire,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. “This kind of selfless bravery is an invaluable asset to the people of the City of Newark.”
