Newark High School Student’s Alleged Murderer Arrested In Georgia: Cops

Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting a 16-year-old Newark high school student and wounding three other victims.

NEWARK, NJ — Police have arrested a man suspected of murdering a 16-year-old Newark high school student earlier this year, authorities announced Tuesday.

Members of an FBI Task Force arrested Raheem Rudd, 24, of Newark, in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Public Safety Department.

Rudd is accused of shooting and killing Kevin Barber, a 16-year-old East Side High School student, around 5 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the John Hyatt Court Complex, a Newark Housing Authority building.

Police said that three other victims – ages 15, 16 and 19 - suffered serious injuries in the shooting.

Rudd allegedly shot all four victims, police said.

Authorities charged Rudd with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, eluding law enforcement, possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Rudd is being held in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta awaiting extradition, authorities stated Tuesday.
