Newark Housing Authority Rates Low On Federal Scorecard: Report

"We're going to have some hard conversations," the NHA's executive director said.

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Housing Authority (NHA) recently scored low on a scorecard from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), putting an extra federal spotlight on the local agency, a report says.

The NHA scored a total of 39 percent on the latest round of the HUD’s scorecard, which rates housing agencies in multiple categories. A passing score in any category is 60 percent, TAPinto Newark reported.

“We’re going to have some hard conversations,” the NHA’s executive director said.

According to its website, the NHA has 45 developments in almost every neighborhood in the city of Newark. There are 10 elderly/disabled and 34 family developments, which include scattered site development throughout the city.
