OFFICER INJURED
Authorities are seeking the public’s help finding the driver of a silver Nissan Altima after they allegedly injured a Newark police officer with their car on Tuesday.
According to police, members of the NPD Special Investigations Division responded to Clinton and Chadwick avenues around 11:25 p.m. to investigate citizen complaints of alleged narcotics sales occurring in the area.
The two officers parked their unmarked car near the intersection to investigate the complaint and had exited the vehicle when a parked Nissan Altima suddenly accelerated, striking the rear bumper of the police car, authorities said.
The resulting impact injured one of the officers when she became momentarily pinned between the police car’s door and frame, police said.
The vehicle, which had tinted windows and Georgia license plates, left the scene and was last seen traveling on Chadwick Avenue towards Avon Avenue, police stated.
Emergency responders transported the injured officer to University Hospital where she was treated and is expected to be released, authorities said.
