Newark Man Allegedly Shot In Pennsylvania, Told Cops It Happened In N.J.

Newark authorities charged the 30-year-old man with false reporting to police.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested a New Jersey man on Thursday after he was allegedly injured during a police-involved shooting in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, then falsely reported that he was shot in Newark, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to University Hospital on a report of a shooting injury around 1:30 a.m. The injured man, Brian Evans, 30, of Newark, told officers that he was shot near South 20th Street and Springfield Avenue following a quarrel.

However, detectives investigating the shooting later developed evidence that Evans was actually injured in Wilkes-Barre during a police-involved shooting, authorities stated.
