Newark Mayor Angrily Denies Allegations In Social Media Post
"This is not the first time this person has issued lies and ugly statements about us and our family," Mayor Ras Baraka said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Mayor Ras Baraka says he’s lawyering up after a “disturbing and categorically false” social media post was made involving allegations of domestic violence.
“Last night, my wife, Linda, and I received notification about a social media post that was put up by a person that uses the pseudonym ‘Moses Singletary,’” Baraka wrote Wednesday.
“It was disturbing and categorically false,” the mayor said. “It was a complete fabrication and offensive to us and our family.”

“Everyone knows that I lost my sister to domestic violence. She was murdered along with her partner by my former brother-in-law. To this day, our family and close friends still feel the deep and long pain of this trauma. ‘Moses Singletary’s’ lies create intense mental and emotional anguish for me – more than can be imagined. This person took the time to fabricate a detailed story about us and then tag other people to try to further spread this lie. This is not about politics, or a difference of opinions, or even criticism about specific policies and practices. This is more sinister. It is an outright personal attack on me and the people I love the most. More than that, it is an attempt to undermine and stop a trajectory of progress in Newark that this person didn’t start, or close a door this person didn’t open. Their vile and sick attempt to defame and demean me us has not and will not cause me to stop doing the work I am doing or prevent me from continuing the path I am on. It most certainly won’t stop me from loving this city and the people in it. It will not cause Linda and I to become cynical or hateful, no matter how vicious the lies are.”
“After consultation, Linda and I have contacted lawyers and are being advised of next steps,” Baraka concluded.
