Newark Music Teacher Arrested For Alleged Sex Acts With Student: Prosecutor

The North Bergen man allegedly engaged in various sex acts with a student while on school property, authorities say.

Newark, NJ – A Newark Arts High School music teacher faces charges of sexual assault after allegedly engaging in various sexual acts with a 17-year-old female student, authorities stated.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Jaime Rodriguez, 33, of North Bergen, was charged with three counts of sexual assault on Wednesday.

Prosecutors allege that between Jan. 1 and April 27, during the school day, the teacher engaged in “various sexual acts” with the student while on school property.

Rodriguez has been a teacher at Arts High School for about four years, prosecutors stated.

Authorities charged Rodriguez with three counts of second degree sexual assault. His bail was set at $200,000 with no ten percent option.

Rodriguez is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.
