Newark Native Promotes Arts With Latino Film Festival

The Newark Latino Film Festival will return to the Brick City after a successful debut last year.

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Latino Film Festival will return to the Brick City for 2019 after a successful debut last year.

An opening ceremony and short film award ceremony will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at Latin Flavor Restaurant and Lounge, 870 Broadway in Newark on Friday, Oct. 11. (Learn more about this local event)

According to the NLFF website, founder/director Ramon Nazario – a Newark native – started the event after realizing there isn’t a film festival specifically geared towards the diverse Hispanic and Latino community of his home city.

“As a Newark-born, lifelong resident, whose mother took me home to Puerto Rico every summer, I am passionate about my city and my culture,” Nazario writes.

The festival’s award-winning films, created by Latino and Hispanic filmmakers, will be shown at several venues throughout Newark which will be announced once the films have been selected.
