NEWARK, NJ — A Newark nonprofit with a history of positive community building recently brought some holiday cheer to students at several local schools with their “Christmas on Wheels” event.

Last week, Girls; Live, Love, Laugh Inc. hosted a holiday drive, distributing 500 toys to students at selected schools in the city. The nonprofit provides educational and social mentorship to young women in the Newark area. Read More: Newark Group Has Helped Girls 'Live, Love, Laugh' For 10 Years

Founder Allison James-Frison said the goal was to make sure local families had at least one gift to put under their Christmas trees.

“It enriches my life to engage with my Newark neighbors who are people that have experienced or who are currently experiencing similar difficulties that I have overcome,” James-Frison said.

“Many Christmas events benefit early elementary school-aged children,” said Genique Hamilton, principal of University High School.

“We are extremely grateful for Allison James-Frison’s ‘Christmas On Wheels’ event, as it remembers the need to bring cheer to middle school-aged scholars, especially during these challenging times,” Hamilton added.
