Newark Police Captain Posthumously Promoted To Deputy Chief After Cancer Battle
Newark police veteran Robert Sbaraglio was honored after fighting a 10-year battle with cancer, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark officials posthumously honored longtime Newark Police Department veteran Robert Sbaraglio with a promotion to deputy chief on Wednesday.
Sbaraglio, who served with the NPD for more than 30 years, succumbed to his 10-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, authorities said.
On Wednesday, Newark officials promoted Sbaraglio from captain to deputy chief in honor of his achievements with the force.

According to city officials:
“Sbaraglio joined the department in 1984 and worked numerous assignments as he rose through the ranks, including the Auto Squad, the Traffic Division, the Criminal Investigations Bureau, and was the commander of the Department’s elite Special Enforcement Bureau at the time of his death.”

Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose stated that Sbaraglio was a “well-respected member of the Police Division and will be missed by all.”
