Newark Police Conduct 'Quality Of Life' Crackdown: Broad and Market Streets

Newark police recently made 30 arrests and more than 110 traffic citations in the area of Broad and Market Streets, authorities say.

Newark, NJ - Newark police announced Friday that its officers have been conducting operations in the areas surrounding Broad and Market Streets in response to “quality of life complaints.”

According to authorities, the operation began last week and has so far resulted in 30 arrests, more than 110 traffic summonses, 35 quality of life summonses, 63 traffic stops, 2 tows, 5 bicycle checks, 27 business checks, 17 bank checks and 27 dispatched calls answered.  

Authorities stated that drugs and money were also seized, including cocaine, 51 decks of heroin, 15 bags of marijuana, 191 prescription pain pills and several hundred dollars in cash.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose stated that the operation is “the first in a series on ongoing operations aimed at addressing the types of activities that have a negative impact on how people view the City of Newark.”
