Newark Police Detective Charged With Sex Assault: Prosecutor

Kenneth Gaulette, 33, of Manalapan, allegedly forced a 40-year-old woman to perform a sexual act on him, prosecutors say.

Newark, NJ – A Newark police officer has been arrested and charged with sexual assault and criminal coercion, authorities stated Wednesday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, on Nov. 29, Newark Police Detective Kenneth Gaulette, 33, of Manalapan, allegedly forced a 40-year-old woman to perform a sexual act on him while on police property in the city of Newark.

Authorities charged Gaulette with second degree sexual assault after he turned himself into police.

He was also charged with fourth degree criminal coercion for allegedly suggesting the woman would receive favorable treatment from law enforcement if she performed the sex act, prosecutors said.

A police officer for nine years, Gaulette began with the Newark Police Department, prosecutors stated.

He was laid off from the Newark Department in 2010, but returned to the Newark Police Department in 2012, prosecutors said.

Gaulette’s bail was set at $75,000 with no 10 percent option.
