Newark Police Make 3 Robbery Arrests
Newark police apprehended three city residents who were being sought in connection with a pair of armed robberies.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police have apprehended three city residents who were being sought in connection with two separate robberies, authorities announced.
Newark police apprehended Taquin Burgess, 19, who was wanted in connection with a robbery that took place on Oct. 29.
The two female victims were walking near the intersection of Broadway and Elwood Avenue around 1 a.m. when a suspect exited a black Jeep and stole their purses at gunpoint before fleeing, Newark police stated.

Detectives developed evidence to identify Burgess as a suspect in the robbery and secured an arrest warrant on charges of Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.
Members of the Newark Police Division’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and the NJ State Parole Board arrested Burgess at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 30. Police said that Burgess attempted to flee from a residence in the 400 block of 19th Avenue as law enforcement officers arrived.

ROBBED AT GUNPPOINT
On Nov. 30, Newark police and other law enforcement officers also arrested two men who allegedly robbed and assaulted an 18-year-old male victim at gunpoint, police said.
On Saturday, Nov. 25, around 9:30 p.m., an 18-year-old male reported that he was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint by Sean Williams, 25, and Ajah Sumpter, 20, near the intersection of Bergen Street and Hawthorne Avenue, Newark police said.
Nothing was taken during the robbery and the victim did not seek medical attention for his injuries, police said.
Members of the Police Division’s Fugitive Apprehension Team located and arrested Williams and Sumpter without incident this morning at an apartment in the 200 block of Irvine Turner Blvd.
Both were charged with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, with Williams facing additional charges of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.
