Newark Public Meeting In Central Ward Canceled (UPDATED)

Central Ward Councilwoman LaMonica McIver was scheduled to host a public town hall meeting on March 12.

NEWARK, NJ — UPDATE: CentralWard Councilwoman LaMonica McIver is postponing her public Town Hall meeting, scheduled at 744 Broad Street on March 12 due to growing concerns about the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the health and safety of the people of Newark. Our original article follows below.

Central Ward Councilwoman LaMonica McIver will host a public town hall meeting at 744 Broad Street in Newark on Thursday, March 12 at 6 p.m.

According to a news release from McIver, the meeting will discuss parking in and around the downtown Newark area. Invited guests from the Parking Authority, Newark Police Department and Newark Department of Public Works will be in attendance.

The meeting is open to residents and business owners in and around downtown Central Ward.

“As Newark continues to thrive and population increases bring newer parking restrictions, it’s inevitable that managing parking in the downtown and the Central Ward will only become more critical for the residents and people I serve,” McIver said.

“My office receives so many calls from residents seeking a solution, I felt that it was important to have this meeting to give residents an opportunity to address this matter with those who can hopefully provide some insight and/or solutions if not clarity,” McIver said. “I encourage anyone who has a question about parking, event parking or permit parking should be in attendance.”
