Newark Puerto Rican Day Parade, Music Fest Will Return For 2022
One of the largest celebrations of Puerto Rican culture in North Jersey will return for a colorful display of pride in Newark this fall.
NEWARK, NJ — One of the largest celebrations of Puerto Rican culture in North Jersey will return for a colorful display of pride in Newark this fall.
The 2022 Newark Puerto Rican Day Parade will take place at noon on Sunday, Sept. 18. Now in its 61st year, the parade takes place Broadway/Avenida Puerto Rico to Lake Street along Bloomfield Avenue in Newark in honor of the millions of inhabitants of Puerto Rico and more than five million people living in the United States.

Puerto Rican Day Parade Inc., the nonprofit that organizes the event, has been sharing information about some of this year’s honorees on social media, including the parade’s grand marshal, Luis Quintana, a Newark City Council member.
Quintana was the first Hispanic person to be elected to the position of councilman-at-large in Newark, as well as the first Hispanic to become mayor.

- Captain Jose Ruiz - Puerto Rican Hero of the Year
- Maritza Beniquez – Puerto Rican Hero of the Year
- Rev. Pablo Pizarro Jr. – Faith Leader of the Year
- Captain Fidiberto Soto – Puerto Rican Hero of the Year
- Essex County Commisioner Robert Mercado – Public Servant of the Year
- Don Miguel “Mike” Rodrriguez - Lifetime Achievement Honoree
