Newark Resident Protests Ban From City Council Meetings: Report

A Newark resident is contesting a temporary ban that was handed down after she was escorted out of a council meeting, a report says.

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark resident is protesting a two-meeting ban that was handed down after she was recently escorted out of a city council meeting.

Munirah El-Bomani has filed a court injunction, seeking to regain access to City Hall and claiming that her temporary ban is “unconstitutional.” Police escorted her from the council’s Feb. 7 meeting after she repeatedly called out from the audience to criticize city administrators, TAP into Newark reported.

Another frequent speaker at city council meetings was recently banned from attending meetings for a year after allegedly addressing the council in a “threatening and violent manner, which included “rolling her fist in the air,” TAP into Newark reported.
