Newark Residents Share Complaints With U.S. Attorney At Town Hall
VIDEO: Residents were eager to sound off about issues such as police brutality, a lack of quality housing and gentrification.
NEWARK, NJ — A town hall meeting at a church in Newark drew a large crowd of Brick City residents earlier this week, many of whom were eager to sound off about issues such as police brutality, a lack of quality housing and gentrification.
The town hall at Zion Hill Baptist Church took place with the participation of Philip Sellinger, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and his senior staff.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the event was held to discuss “federal civil rights enforcement, protecting Newark residents from violent crime, assisting incarcerated people to return to the community and other priorities.”

While thankful to Sellinger for appearing in Newark – the first time in years that someone from the U.S. Attorney’s Office has done so, according to one activist – the crowd at Tuesday’s town hall didn’t pull punches when it came to sharing their complaints.
