Newark Robbery Suspects Came For Cash, Settled For Cigars: Police

A trio of robbery suspects went into a store to steal some cash. They settled for eight boxes of cigars instead, Newark police say.

NEWARK, NJ — They came for the cash. They settled for cigars instead, authorities say.

Newark police are searching for three men who allegedly robbed a store on Hawthorne Avenue, authorities announced Tuesday.

The robbery took place on the 200-block of Hawthorne Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, when three people entered a store, one carrying a handgun, police said.

After the clerk on duty and a customer in the store fled to a storage area, the suspects tried to open the cash register but failed. They then stole eight boxes of cigars and fled the scene, police said.
