Newark’s ‘No-Cost’ Pet Clinic Needs A New Home
The ability to care for a pet shouldn't depend on how much money you make. Can you help this "no-cost" Newark clinic survive?

NEWARK, NJ — The ability to care for a pet shouldn’t depend on how much money you make. Armed with this philosophy of compassion and support from their community, the Newark Community Healthy Pet Clinic has quietly provided no-cost veterinary care for close to 200 pets and their owners since launching in January of 2016.
But sadly, the plucky Newark clinic is now facing an “uncertain future,” its all-volunteer staff says.

The clinic, which currently operates out of a converted warehouse on New York Avenue, may soon find itself without a home base due to the sale of the property. When the sale goes through, the warehouse space - which has been donated by Yglesias Commercial - must be vacated, Founder and Executive Director Nancy Shaw told Patch.
And without the space for its vets to ply their lifesaving skills, the nonprofit’s monthly clinics can no longer continue to provide preventive care services to its clients, all whom have a family income level of less than $25,000 per year, Shaw said.

That means no more physical exams… no more core DA2PP and rabies vaccines… no more heartworm and Felv/FIV testing… no more empiric deworming. The list goes on.
Want to help? Here’s what you can do, Shaw said:
“A donation of space in Newark and or monetary funds to the Newark Community Healthy Pet Clinic would aid in the continuation of these monthly clinics. Monetary donations can be made by either online donations through the clinic's Facebook page or via check made out to the non-profit 501(c)(3). Checks made out to the Newark Community Healthy Pet Clinic can be mailed c/o Dr. Nancy Shaw, 4 Freeman Lane Denville, NJ, 07834.”
