Newark Sees 2nd Fatal House Fire In 1 Week: Officials

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark man died in a house fire on Roseville Avenue on Thursday, authorities said. It was the second fatal blaze in the city this week.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, about 55 firefighters responded to 412 Roseville Avenue at 12:35 p.m.

While some firefighters battled to control flames coming from the upper levels of the three-story, wood-frame home, others searched for potential victims. Firefighters eventually found an “unresponsive” adult male on the second floor, authorities said.

Emergency responders also found another man and a woman at the scene, who were both transported to University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The fire was considered under control at 1:54 p.m., officials said.

Four adults were relocated due to the fire damage, authorities stated.

Arson detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the cause and origin of the fire, authorities said Thursday. No additional information was immediately available.
