Newark Shooting Claims 29-Year-Old Man’s Life On Christmas Eve
A shooting in Newark claimed the life of a 29-year-old man on Christmas Eve, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A shooting in Newark claimed the life of a 29-year-old man on Christmas Eve. The deceased man was identified as Troy Ibn Branch of Newark, authorities said.
Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress on the 200-block of Peshine Avenue shortly before 5 p.m., according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Public Safety Department.
Arriving officers found an unresponsive man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Branch, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 p.m., prosecutors said.

No additional information was immediately available.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can call the Prosecutor’s Tips Line at (877) 847-7432.
