Newark Shooting Suspect, Clad In Red, Fires At Car: Police

A passenger in the car allegedly shot back at the pedestrian, Newark police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark authorities are seeking the public’s help identifying a shooting suspect clad all in red who allegedly fired a weapon at a car on Mapes Avenue Sunday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, police responded to the 100-block of Mapes Avenue near Osborne Terrace around 3:12 p.m. after hearing gunshots in the area. Police said that officers determined that a man shot at a white Lexus sedan with tinted windows from the sidewalk. A passenger in the Lexus also fired a weapon from inside the vehicle, authorities said.

After the shooting, the suspect allegedly ran west on Mapes Avenue. No injuries were reported, authorities stated.

Police said that the suspect who fired from the sidewalk was clad in a red-hooded jacket and red pants and was wearing a multi-colored backpack. (See below photos)
