Newark Shootings That Killed 1, Hurt 6 May Be Related: Police
A pair of separate shootings in Newark that injured six and claimed the life of an East Orange man may be related, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — A pair of separate shootings in Newark that injured six and claimed the life of an East Orange man earlier this week may be related, authorities said Thursday.
On Tuesday, 29-year-old John Warren of East Orange was fatally shot on the 700-block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Newark at approximately 4:47 p.m. Also injured in the shooting were a 58-year-old woman, a 56-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man and a 20- year-old man, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Public Safety Department.
Five minutes later, a second shooting occurred on the 200-block of South Orange Avenue. In that incident, a 57- year-old man was shot in the elbow and a 23-year-old man was shot in the hand and leg. Those injuries are considered non-life threatening, authorities said.

An investigation is ongoing, but as of Thursday, police are “exploring the possibility that the incidents are related,” authorities said.
