Newark Student Found With Gun At School: Police
Newark police arrested a 15-year-old student after finding him with a loaded gun at a local school, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested a 15-year-old student after finding him with a loaded gun at METS charter school on Broad Street on Thursday, authorities say.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to the school around noon after receiving a call about a student with a weapon. On arrival, police found a 15-year-old male student with a loaded handgun.
Officers arrested the student without incident and confiscated the gun, police said.

Authorities charged the teen with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in an Educational Institution.
According to police, 3rd Precinct Commanding Officer Adolph Perez is meeting with school officials to “review current security procedures and to discuss ways to improve security with the goal of reducing the likelihood of similar incidents.”
