Newark Teen Stabbed On Memorial Day, Arrest Made: Police

Newark police have arrested a local woman accused of stabbing a 17-year-old victim during a quarrel on Ludlow Street.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested a local woman on Memorial Day after she allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old victim during a quarrel on Ludlow Street, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, police responded to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center on a call of a stabbing victim at 11:50 p.m. on May 27.

At the hospital, the officers found the 17-year-old female victim, who was stabbed during an argument with another woman on the 100-block of Ludlow Street, police said.

Returning to the scene of the argument, police found Jessica Souffrant, 33, of Newark, and arrested her without incident, authorities said.

Police later charged Souffrant with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. She also faces charges of contempt on an open warrant, authorities said.
