Newark Woman Charged With Stabbing Boyfriend To Death

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark woman faces a murder charge after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend last weekend. The victim, Ricardo Valla, 34, of Newark, died from his injuries a day after being stabbed, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is charging that Norma Vasquez, 35, of Newark, stabbed Valla around 2 p.m. on Jan. 28. Emergency responders transported Valla to University Hospital after finding him at the scene; he was pronounced dead at the hospital on Jan. 29.

Prosecutors originally charged Vasquez with aggravated assault, but upgraded the charge to murder after Valla passed away.
