NJ Devils & RWJBarnabas Health Team Up For ‘Build-a-Bike’ Event
Community Service Project Supports Patients at RWJBarnabas Health's Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center

NJ Devils players and prospects competing in the recent Development Camp participated in a “Community Bike Build” after practice on July 12th. Six patients from Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center - who have all endured medical challenges at a young age – were proud recipients of a new bicycle, each fully assembled by the hockey players.
The Build-a-Bike community service project, a collaboration between the Devils and corporate partner RWJBarnabas Health also served as a team building event for the players, led by 2018 first-round pick (No. 17) Ty Smith. The children, all between the ages of 7-11, were presented the bicycle upon completion, and each child had the opportunity to test drive their new ride on the Prudential Center Floor. It was truly a memorable day for all the kids, as they embraced the opportunity to interact with future professional athletes, while enjoying the gift of a new bicycle.
