NJ Teacher Dies After Car Crash At High School In Newark
One of the cars lost control after the crash and hit a bystander, pinning her against the wall of the school building, prosecutors said.
NEWARK, NJ — A teacher died in the hospital last weekend after a recent car crash injured her and three other people at a school in Newark, authorities announced Monday.
The two-car crash took place on the morning of Oct. 23 outside Arts High School at 550 Martin Luther King Boulevard, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
After the crash, one of the vehicles lost control and struck Laura Cuevas, 66, pinning her against the exterior wall of the building, prosecutors said.

Emergency responders transported Cuevas to University Hospital. She died there on Saturday evening, authorities said.
Another teacher and the two drivers sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. They were treated at University Hospital, prosecutors said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigation Bureau is investigating the fatal crash. No additional information was immediately available.
