NJ Transit Bus Crashes Into Newark Stop, Injures 8 People
A bus crashed into a stop, injuring eight people. The driver reported "mechanical problems," police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities say that five women sitting at a bus stop, a bus driver and two male passengers suffered minor injuries after a NJ Transit bus crashed into a canopied bus stop in Newark on Monday.
According to the Newark Police Department, the crash took place around 9:32 a.m. at the intersection of Broad and Market streets.
“The bus was traveling eastbound on Market Street, approaching Broad Street, when the driver reports that mechanical problems caused him to lose control and to hit the bus stop,” police stated.

Emergency responders transported eight people to University Hospital where they were treated for “minor, mostly pain-related injuries. A pair of additional passengers that were in the crash plan to seek medical attention on their own, police said.
Authorities briefly closed the intersection to remove the bus and canopy structure.
