NJ Transit Restarts Train Service To NY Penn Station After Derailment

Rail service to and from Penn Station was temporarily suspended due to a "minor slow speed derailment," NJ Transit said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — NJ Transit temporarily suspended train service to and from Penn Station New York after a “minor slow speed derailment” on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

NJ Transit issued travel alerts about the derailment for all of its train lines: Atlantic City, Main-Bergen County, Montclair-Boonton, Morris & Essex, Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Pascack Valley and Raritan Valley.

A Northeast Corridor train coming from Trenton derailed in Penn Station shortly before 9 a.m. The train remained upright and no one was injured, a NJ Transit spokesperson told NorthJersey.com.

Midtown Direct service was being diverted to Hoboken. NJ Transit rail tickets and passes were cross-honored by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd St-NY, as well as NJ Transit bus and private carriers.

Service has resumed out of Penn Station New York with 60 minute delays, NJ Transit reported at 11:52 a.m.
