Pedestrian From East Orange Dies After Hit-And-Run In Irvington: ECPO
A hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a 70-year-old man in Essex County, authorities said.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a 70-year-old pedestrian in Essex County last weekend, authorities announced Monday.
The fatal collision took place at 10:07 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Linden Avenue in Irvington, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Irvington Police Department.
The victim – Bernard Jones, 70, of East Orange – was transported to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark and pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m.

The driver didn’t remain at the scene, authorities said. No arrests have been made as of Monday.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau is investigating Jones’ death. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.

The crash was the second road fatality that happened on Saturday in Essex County.
Another fatal collision took place at 12:15 p.m. at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Park Street in Montclair. An 83-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.
