AKAS AND DELTAS JOIN IN SERVICE TO CELEBRATE WOMEN'S HEART HEALTH MONTH #PINKGOESRED

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Beta Alpha Omega Chapter and the North Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. have joined in service to present their celebration of Women’s Heart Health Month. AKAs and Deltas will strut down the runway while bringing awareness to the impact of heart disease in the community.
The event is being held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newark City Hall (The Rotunda), located at 920 Broad Street in Newark, and is open to the public. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s Beta Alpha Omega Chapter was chartered in Newark, New Jersey on January 30, 1934, becoming the first chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha in the state. Having dedicated 82 years of service to the Newark, Hillside and Irvington communities, the Beta Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is deeply rooted in the sorority’s principal of “service to all mankind.” President of the chapter is Roslyn Holmes-Grant. The North Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.’s commitment to sisterhood, scholarship and service dates back to June 11, 1939 when fourteen women established the Kappa Sigma Chapter (now NJAC) – the first chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in the State of New Jersey. Today, with a chapter membership of more than 200 members committed to the ideals of The Sorority, the North Jersey Alumnae Chapter continues to serve the northern New Jersey communities in Essex, Hudson and Union counties.
