Police Arrest Man Accused Of Murdering 22-Year-Old In Newark

A Newark resident has been accused of fatally shooting a 22-year-old victim on Sunset Avenue, authorities announced.

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark resident has been accused of fatally shooting a 22-year-old victim on Sunset Avenue earlier this year, authorities announced Thursday.

Al-Muqtadir Padgett, 32, of Newark, was arrested and charged with the murder of Tyree R. Quinones, 22, also of Newark, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Quinones was fatally shot in the area of 115 Sunset Avenue in Newark on July 13, authorities said.

Padgett has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is currently in custody at the Essex County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
