Man Shoots At Newark Cops During Domestic Violence Call: Authorities
UPDATED: Newark police officers returned fire after a man shot at them. The suspect was hit, and is in "stable" condition at the hospital.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police officers returned fire after a man shot at them while they were responding to a domestic violence call on Monday morning, striking the suspect and sending him to the hospital, authorities said.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the non-fatal shooting took place early Monday morning at the Ebon Square apartments in Newark. Hakeem Murchison, 30, of Newark, has been charged with aggravated assault and two weapon offenses in connection with the shooting.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office released the following additional details about the shooting:
"On June 26 at about 4 a.m., police responded to a report of domestic violence in an apartment building on the 700-block of Clinton Avenue, Newark. Police located and approached Murchison in the hallway. He fired at the officers, but neither was hit. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. The two officers and the suspect were taken to University Hospital. The officers were not injured, and Murchison is listed in stable condition."
