Shorts Stuffed With Cocaine Seized At Newark Airport

A Netherlands man allegedly tried to smuggle two packages of cocaine into Newark Airport inside a pair of spandex shorts, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ — Federal customs officials intercepted a Netherlands man who allegedly tried to smuggle two packages of cocaine into Newark Liberty International Airport inside a pair of spandex shorts last week, authorities say.

According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped 44-year-old Rowald Thomas Tromp, a citizen of the Netherlands, after he arrived in Newark from Oranjestad, Aruba, on Dec. 14.

That was when CBP offices found two packages of cocaine inside Tromp’s backpack stuffed inside a pair of spandex shorts, authorities said.

Port Authority police arrested Tromp and charged him with Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession With Intent to Distribute.
