Starting a School Garden? Free Workshop Will Provide Advice You Need.

School gardens are great learning tools for students and for educators to contribute to greener and healthier communities.

Greater Newark Conservancy will present a professional development workshop on creating and sustaining a school garden on Tuesday, March 10th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Judith L. Shipley Urban Environmental Center, 32 Prince Street, Newark. The event, “So You Want to Start a School Garden…” is designed for educators and parents from Newark and surrounding communities. It will help get you on the right path whether you are thinking about starting a garden at your school, or want to improve the garden that you have.

Participants will discuss how to plan and design your garden, basic gardening skills, necessary resources (including fundraising for your garden), outdoor classroom management and how to connect the garden to your curriculum goals.

The workshop is being presented by the Conservancy for the third consecutive year, and is perfect for garden teams assembled from school staff members, including Principals and Vice Principals, noted Sarah O’Leary, Education Coordinator.
