Street Racers, Spectators Busted In Newark: Avenue P

Newark, NJ – If you’re looking for an illegal street race in Newark, the racetrack may be closed on Avenue P, authorities say.
According to the Newark Police Department, officers launched a two-day crackdown on illegal street racing in the city’s Ironbound section last weekend.
Officers issued 100 traffic summonses, arrested one person for driving without a license, questioned 37 individuals and ticketed one person for a quality of life offense during the 48-hour crackdown, authorities stated in a Sunday news release.

A significant number of the tickets were issued to Jersey City residents, as well as residents from Elizabeth, Jersey City, Union City and Newark, police said.
Most of the summonses were issued for motor vehicles infractions occurring near or on Avenue P, although numerous locations popular with the street racing were also checked, authorities said.

“As I stated previously, these are ongoing operations that will continue until those that chose to watch or street race get the message, not here,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose stated. “We will not allow them to come to our city to needlessly endanger not only their lives but the lives of others.”
According to a YouTube post from EatSleepRace.com, Avenue P is “Tri-State street racing's most notorious street.”
