'Suspicious Package' Found At Newark City Hall; Here's What It Was, Authorities Say

The item wasn't a hazard to visitors or employees, Newark police said.

NEWARK, NJ — A “suspicious package” spotted at Newark City Hall on Thursday turned out to be just an appliance, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to city hall at 920 Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard at 2:44 p.m. after getting a call about a suspicious package inside the building.

The Newark Police Emergency Services Unit eventually determined that the package was “merely an appliance” and not a hazard to visitors or employees, authorities said.
