Taylor Swift Nabs Most Nominations For 2023 MTV Awards In New Jersey

The popular awards are returning to Newark this year. See which of your favorite musicians earned nominations.

NEWARK, NJ — MTV has released its list of 2023 Video Music Award (VMA) nominees ahead of this year’s gala event, which will return to New Jersey on Sept. 12.

Earlier this year, MTV announced that its VMAs will return to the Prudential Center in Newark for a second straight year. Airing live in more than 150 countries and reaching more than 319 million households, the VMAs will pay tribute to some of the best music videos of the past year.

Topping this year’s list was Taylor Swift, who earned eight nominations and will be seeking her second-straight victory for “Video of the Year.” Swift is followed by SZA (six nominations), Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith (five nominations each), and Blackpink, Diddy and Shakira (four each).

This year also boasts a record number of first-ever “VMAs” nominees (35 total), with multiple nominations for first-timers Kim Petras (five), Metro Boomin and Rema (three each), Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Reneé Rapp and Yung Miami (two each). Other artists receiving first-time nods include Aespa, boygenius, Burna Boy, Davido, Eslabon Armado, Fletcher, Fifty Fifty, JVKE, Lauren Spencer Smith, Musa Keys, PinkPantheress, Saucy Santana, Stephen Sanchez and Toosii, among others.

As of Tuesday, fans are able to vote for their favorites across 15 gender-neutral categories. Voting for most categories is open though Sept. 1 and can be done online here.
