CNBC Crew In Hot Water After Bomb Scare At Newark Airport: Report

The TV crew's employers called the incident at Newark Airport a "misunderstanding," a report says. Nine people were arrested.

NEWARK, NJ — A television crew that claimed to be filming a scene for an upcoming reality show episode may face five years in prison after being arrested at Newark Airport last week, a report says.

According to the Port Authority, a group of nine people who later claimed to be with a "television show" tried to pass a "suspicious package" through security screening at Terminal One of the busy international airport on Jan. 18.

The item – placed inside a carry-on bag – resembled an explosive device. It was later found to be fake. Some of the group were filming the encounter, but none were able to produce media credentials, authorities said.
