UPDATE: Victims Of Maplewood Triple Murder Identified

Essex County authorities have identified the victims of what appears to be a fatal shooting, prosecutors say.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Authorities have identified the three victims of what appears to be a fatal triple shooting that took place in a Maplewood apartment on Sunday.

Prosecutors say that Maplewood firefighters discovered three, unresponsive adults after being called to a Van Ness Court apartment around 11:45 a.m. to check a resident’s well-being after receiving a call from a concerned person who had been unable to contact them.

On arrival, firefighters used a ladder to gain entry to the apartment where they discovered the three victims, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino.

“A preliminary investigation indicates that they sustained gunshot wounds but the cause and manner of death will be determined by a medical examiner,” prosecutors stated.

An autopsy is expected to be done Monday, prosecutors said.

The motive for the murders is unclear, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly said Monday.

Fennelly said that no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. An investigation is active. Anyone with information can call the Prosecutor's Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or (877) 847-7432.
