Victim Robbed In Newark, Thought He Was Buying Car: Police

Several people robbed a victim at gunpoint and fled through a nearby apartment complex, Newark police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for several suspects in connection with an armed robbery that took place earlier this month, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Newark Department of Public Safety released the following details about the robbery:

“The armed robbery incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on the 100-block of Avon Avenue when the victim thought he was buying a car from a woman he met. As they walked along Avon toward Jeliff Avenue, a man waiting for them instructed the victim to wait for the car at that location. When the victim became suspicious and began to walk away, three male suspects approached him from Pilgrim Baptist Village, an apartment complex.”

At that point, one of the men brandished a handgun and demanded that the victim surrender his personal belongings. The suspects went through his pockets and took several items, then made their escape through the apartment complex, police said.
