A police officer rescued a man who was lying on the train tracks last week, and the incident was caught on video.
NJ Transit police officer Victor Ortiz pulled the man from the tracks near Secaucus on Friday. Video of the incident provided by the agency shows Ortiz pulling the man from the tracks just before an oncoming train pulls into the station.
“NJ Transit could not be more proud of Victor Ortiz and of the New Jersey Transit Police Department and we hope this serves as a stark reminder of what these men and women do every single day to keep us safe throughout this state,” NJ Transit said in a statement.

Ortiz told CBS2 he had to make a split-second decision.
“I saw the train rapidly approaching, and in an instant I said to myself, ‘I’m going to have to let this guy go because otherwise he’s going to take me with him,'” Ortiz told the station. “It’s just a matter of seconds there. On the flip side, I said to myself, ‘Let me give one more tug on hopes I can pull him through.'”
